Today was rather unpredictable. It began sunny, briefly rained while I was eating breakfast, then blue skies appeared and I prepared to go shopping on Shattuck. But as soon as I stepped out of the gate, I saw dark clouds in the distance and felt a mist on the wind. But things looked fine in the other direction, so I stepped back inside for a hat and scarf, and walked over to Long’s Drugs (which carries a nice selection of groceries). I then stopped at Peets Coffee for my inaugural bag of beans and a free cup of coffee. I returned to the apartment and sat by the window working on my laptop, when all of a sudden a fierce wind came out of nowhere, bringing with it not just rain but hail too! Incredible I thought, and opened the door to marvel at the sky (and to retrieve my door mat, which blows into my neighbor’s plant at the slightest breeze). Others in the complex had the same idea and I heard one girl exclaim it good she hadn’t gone running. The remainder of the day was cloudy, and I stayed inside.
I believe it has rained at least a little every day save one since I’ve been in California. But the forecast for the next few days is sunny, as I shall be
